The Kerala government has ordered a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) probe against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged corruption, financial irregularities, and criminal misconduct dating back to 2006 during his tenure as the state’s PWD secretary. The inquiry, initiated on a complaint by Congress leader Malayankeezhu Venugopal, revisits the 20-year-old Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) road contracts and the suicide of Malaysian engineer Lee See Been, who reportedly named Kumar in his note over delayed payments. While an initial probe was closed at the time, the fresh preliminary inquiry will examine allegations of improper closure and political interference, though the claims remain unproven and subject to ongoing investigation.
