The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is set to begin its protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party has announced that the protest will later be expanded to other parts of the country.
Ahead of the protest, Mumbai Police has deployed a large security presence at Shivaji Park, with CRPF and Rapid Action Force personnel kept on standby. Police briefings are also being conducted regularly.
The protest has received support from Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray. Meanwhile, a controversy erupted a day before the protest after CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke claimed that he was taken to a police station. Mumbai Police denied detaining him and said he was asked to accompany officers before being allowed to leave.
