Supreme Court News: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar have tendered unconditional apologies to the Supreme Court over the restrictions imposed in Delhi on October 10, during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In their affidavits, the officials said the restrictions were imposed to maintain law and order and prevent violence. The Home Secretary defended the suspension of mobile internet services in parts of Delhi, citing concerns over public safety and rumours. The Delhi Police Commissioner referred to previous protests and alleged violence while explaining the decision to restrict entry and exit at several metro stations.
The controversy follows the Supreme Court’s October 9 order against unregulated restrictions. The Court also issued contempt notices to the officials and the DMRC chairperson. In this video, we explain why the apologies were submitted, what the affidavits say about the internet shutdown and metro restrictions, why the police cited previous protests, and what the Supreme Court will consider before deciding whether its order was violated.
