The Bombay High Court on Tuesday (April 11) directed the central government for a response to comedian Kunal Kamra’s challenge to the changes in the Information Technology (IT) Rules that empower the government to identify “fake news” about itself on social media platforms. A division Bench of Justice Gautam S Patel and Justice Gauri V Godse asked the government to file an affidavit by April 19 detailing the factual background for framing the Rules, and the reasons for it, and posted the matter for hearing on April 21.
