In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Sikh general and warrior Banda Singh Bahadur. Born in 1670 as Lachman Dev, he later became as ascetic by the name of Madho das. After meeting Guru Govind Singh in 1780, Madho Das adopted Khalsa religion and became Banda Singh Bahadur. At that time Sikh and Mughal were engaged in a fierce battle in Punjab. Guru Govind sigh ordered Banda to travel to Punjab and lead the Sikh war. Banda Fought several battles and took revenge of the killing of Sons of Guru Govind Singh. He made Lohgarh as his capital and made coins with Sikh Inscriptions. In 1715 the Mughal army under governor Abdul Samad Khan drove Banda and his army inside Gurudas Nangal fort near Gurdaspur. The siege lasted 8 months. In December 1715 Mughals managed to capture Banda and His companions. He was then brought to Delhi, humiliated torcheres and ultimately killed.
