Samajwadi Party MLC Sunil Singh Sajan has alleged that Uttar Pradesh minister and former cricketer Chetan Chauhan who passed away on August 16 due to COVID-19, died not because of the coronavirus but because of lackadaisical treatment administered to him at the Haryana-run Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences hospital. Sajan raised the issue at Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Parishad and said that both Chauhan and he were both admitted to the same ward of the hospital. On Saturday, the video of Sajan’s speech at the Legislative Council went viral on social media. Chauhan died at the age of 73 after testing positive for COVID-19. He was later moved to Medanta hospital in Haryana’s Gurugram when his condition deteriorated. He was put on life support for nearly 36 hours before he succumbed. Sajan has alleged that the hospital staff did not know who the cricketer-turned-minister was. He said that during a round, a doctor and a nurse asked ‘who is Chetan?’ to which the minister raised his hand. He was asked as to when he got infected with the virus, to which he explained the entire matter to the hospital staff. He further said that another person asked Chauhan him what he did and the minister replied that he was a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government.
