According to sources, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may resign after the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16 and move to the upper house of Parliament. Sources indicate his nomination papers are ready and awaiting his signature, with filing expected by the last date. If this transpires, Bihar could see its first Bharatiya Janata Party chief minister, ending Nitish Kumar’s continuous tenure since 2005. Sources also suggest that Kumar’s son, Nishant, who recently entered politics, may be appointed Deputy Chief Minister in the new government. India Today’s Rohit Singh reported that while a change of guard was anticipated due to Kumar’s deteriorating health, the timing has surprised political observers. Kumar, who is turning 75, has maintained his chief ministerial position across multiple alliance shifts between the BJP and RJD over nearly two decades.
