The Tamil Nadu government under the TVK administration has presented its budget for 2026-27 with a strong focus on youth welfare, education, and sports development. Funding for the Sports and Youth Welfare Department has been nearly doubled from 572 crore rupees to 1,051 crore rupees, emphasizing both elite sports training and grassroots physical education. This includes investing 50 crore rupees in 10 special Olympic training centers and a five crore rupee talent hunt program for children aged eight to 12. For education, 44,567 crore rupees has been allocated to school education, seven crore rupees for anti-drug campaigns, and 710 crore rupees for expanding the government school breakfast scheme to classes six through eight. Other welfare measures announced include AI training institutes worth 10 crore rupees to provide hands-on training for five lakh engineering students, gold rings for newborns in government hospitals, and eight-gram gold along with silk saris for brides. The social welfare department received an allocation of 3,937 crore rupees.
