Students in Jharkhand have reached the gates of the state assembly as their protest enters its 17th day. As they attempt to march towards the Assembly, police use barricades, razor wire, water cannons, lathi-charge and tear gas to stop them.
Meanwhile, a major political development unfolds in Parliament as the Modi government agrees to let Union Home Minister Amit Shah respond to the opposition. But the deadlock continues, with the Opposition demanding answers on more than just the students’ protest. Congress, the Samajwadi Party and other INDIA bloc parties remain divided over their demands and strategy.
The political crisis also deepens for Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh. He finds himself caught between his wife Dimple Yadav and veteran party leader Azam Khan’s camp following the induction of Apna Dal leader Mohammad Waqil into the Samajwadi Party. With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, Akhilesh faces a difficult political balancing act.
At the same time, INDIA bloc dynamics remain under scrutiny as leaders and MPs from opposition parties meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
And then there is Akash Anand, who has begun his campaign for the Uttar Pradesh elections and used a new political relationship with Akhilesh Yadav in his first rally.
