Analysts express serious concerns regarding the environmental and seismic implications of this unprecedented construction in a fragile, environmentally unpredictable region. Massive underground tunneling and interconnected hydropower projects are suspected to have played a role in recent disasters. With China warning that future disasters could be five times stronger, concerns grow over the ecological impact downstream reaching the shores of India.
