The Allahabad High Court continues to reprimand Uttar Pradesh government officials. This time, the Court targeted Deoria’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhijit R. Shankar, and a Station House Officer (SHO). Irked by the absence of CCTV footage from the police station, the Court even warned that it would impose a fine of ₹5 lakh each on the SP and the SHO. The Court ordered the payment of ₹65,000 in compensation to four individuals who had been held in illegal custody; this amount is to be recovered from the SHO.
