According to political discussions within the party, UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam is reportedly pushing for a change in leadership and may be considering a Muslim face for the post. Names such as Imran Masood, Imran Pratapgarhi and former Jaunpur MLA Nadeem Javed are being discussed in political circles.
Ajay Rai, a prominent Bhumihar leader and a long-time Congress face in Uttar Pradesh, has been leading the state unit since 2023. However, differences between the state president and the newly appointed state in-charge have raised questions about the Congress leadership’s strategy ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The bigger question is whether Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are considering a new social and electoral strategy for Uttar Pradesh — one that focuses more strongly on Dalit, OBC and Muslim voters.
At the same time, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav appears to be giving the colour blue a greater political significance. Traditionally associated with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Dalit identity and the Bahujan movement, blue has long been closely linked with the BSP and Mayawati’s politics in Uttar Pradesh.
Is Akhilesh Yadav trying to expand the SP’s social coalition by embracing the blue colour? Can this strategy help the Samajwadi Party attract more Dalit voters? And will Congress replace Ajay Rai before the Uttar Pradesh elections?
