Mohan Lal Sukhadia was just 38 year old when he first became Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He is youngest and longest serving Chief Minister of Rajasthan till date.
Mohan Lal Sukhadia and Indu Sukhadia got married on 1 June 1938. This was an inter caste marriage. Sukhadia’s mother was an Orthodox vaishnav. Inter cast marriges were considered crime in that period. Mohan Lal sukhadia was from Nathdwara town of Mewar state. Nathdwara was epicenter of Vaishnav sect of Hindu religion. This inter cast marriage was subject of outrage in Nathdwara’s vaishnav community. Markets were shutdown in the protest. This marriage was a milestone in Sukhadia’s political life. He became youth icon in Mewar region of Rajasthan.
In November 1954 sitting Cheif Minister Jay Narayan Vyas called fresh election of leader of house. This was a well planned coup. Vyas’s two lieutenants Manikya Lal Verma and Mathura Das Mathur were behind it. Mohan Lal Sukhadia became the poster boy of anti Vyas campaign. On 12th of November 1954 Vyas lost the battle and Mohan Lal Sukhadia became new Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
