The 243 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and 30 in the Union Territory of Puducherry went on polls in a single phase on April 6th, the results of which are set to be declared today, Sunday May 2nd. In Tamil Nadu, the massive tussle is mainly between the ruling AIADMK and MK Stalin-led DMK. The party/ coalition needs minimum 118 seats to stake claim for the government formation. In Puducherry, the BJP has contested the polls in alliance with the AIADMK and AINRC while the Congress has allied with the DMK. Given the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Election Commission has laid down strict instructions, directing that all counting halls must be fully Covid guidelines compliant. No candidates/agents will be allowed inside the counting hall without undergoing RT-PCR/RAT test or without having two doses of vaccination against Covid-19.
