As a tourist I was quite irked by how expensive Norway was, especially groceries. So, I was really keen on finding the reason.
It’s because as an egalitarian society, Norway has really good wages for those who work in the food industry. Which makes groceries almost 27% more expensive than the US as well.
In fact, food prices in Norway are 54% higher on average than other EU countries.
Besides the reasons listen in the video, there are also a few more reasons:
– Toll taxes which also makes produce from within Norway more expensive.
– High customs on food that can be produced within Norway
– Climate and landscape.
– It’s expensive in absolute terms but the prices are regulated to fit the local economy and the Norwegians’ spending power.
Also, tell me what you think, is this a good economic model?
