Whenever Putin travels abroad, he is accompanied by approximately 100 security officers. All of these officers belong to Russia’s Federal Protective Service. Before Putin’s arrival, half—50 officers—arrive in the host country and survey all the locations Putin is scheduled to visit. These 100 officers are part of four security circles. Forty to fifty officers handle the outer circle. Ten to fifteen officers handle intelligence, while Putin’s trusted officers are deployed in the innermost circle. All these officers also conduct security drills with the host country’s security agency. Another fifteen officers are deployed at all times to prepare Putin’s convoy, i.e., his vehicle and route.
