A Republic Day 2026 ceremony in Nashik turned into a political flashpoint when Forest Department staffer Madhuri Jadhav stormed the police parade ground, accusing Maharashtra minister and Nashik guardian minister Girish Mahajan of deliberately skipping Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s name in his 26 January speech despite invoking Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. As “Jai Bhim” slogans echoed and the official programme halted, Madhuri claims she was treated like a criminal, hauled into a police jeep, and now wants SC-ST Atrocities Act action against those who, in her words, “erased Babasaheb from Constitution Day”. Another employee, Darshana Choughule, says their platoon tried to follow protocol, waited for the parade to end and only raised slogans after being denied the mic, while Girish Mahajan insists any omission of Ambedkar was an unintentional slip and has offered an apology. Is this a simple mistake, an insult to the Constitution’s chief architect, or an example of how Ambedkarite assertion is policed in today’s Maharashtra.
