In a significant diplomatic achievement for India, LPG cargo continues to arrive from the Strait of Hormuz despite the Iran-Israel conflict. The Nanda Devi tanker, carrying 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG from Qatar, has reached Kandla port in Gujarat. Another tanker, Jaglarki, carrying 81,000 metric tonnes of crude oil, is expected to arrive at Mundra port today. Two LPG tankers, Shivalik and Nanda Devi, have already crossed the Strait of Hormuz, bringing 92,700 tonnes of LPG to India, equivalent to approximately 1.5 days of demand. This eases the LPG shortage witnessed across the country after commercial supplies had stopped. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial trade route, through which 40 to 50 per cent of India’s crude oil passes. The successful passage of these tankers demonstrates that the Hormuz route remains operational and reduces fears of energy disruption. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hailed the decision by Iran following direct diplomatic talks, stating that diplomacy is always greater than military pressure.
