Despite a recently signed peace deal in Geneva between US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Israel continues to carry out massive strikes on South Lebanon. The Israeli military targeted the city of Nabatieh, citing the presence of Hezbollah headquarters and offices. The renewed bombardment follows a Hezbollah ambush in South Lebanon using anti-tank missiles, which resulted in the deaths of four Israeli soldiers, including an officer. Prior to this ambush, there had been a brief de-escalation with no aerial strikes by Israel in the region. Over 1.2 million residents have been displaced from South Lebanon since the conflict escalated in March. While Israel previously issued evacuation warnings before targeting specific locations, recent strikes hit areas that are already largely depopulated. Most civilians have relocated to Beirut, Sidon, and other towns, seeking refuge in shelter homes and schools. Consequently, civilian casualties are expected to be minimal in the latest aerial strikes near the Israeli border, as the targeted zones have effectively become ghost towns.
