Social activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted from the Jantar Mantar protest site to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police after completing 20 days of his hunger strike. The police said the move was made following medical advice and the Delhi High Court’s directions. The action has sparked sharp political reactions.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticised the move, saying peaceful protests should not be suppressed and that issues like paper leaks, rising education costs and student suicides deserve attention. Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke began an indefinite hunger strike in protest after Wangchuk’s hospitalisation. During his address at Jantar Mantar, a woman threw ink at him and was later detained by the police.
