A catastrophic flood triggered by the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers has caused widespread devastation across parts of Nepal, including Nuwakot, Bagmati, Batar, and Bhadravati. Massive mudslides and debris have flattened residential areas, agricultural centres, and key infrastructure like fisheries, hydro projects, and essential water supply lines. High-altitude search and rescue efforts remain immensely challenging due to constrained air passages and damaged supply lines. Nepal has reversed its initial stance prohibiting foreign rescue agencies, now allowing expert rescue teams from India, South Korea, China, and Australia to assist in retrieving trapped individuals from hydro project tunnels. In Nuwakot’s Dunge market, vast areas were buried under feet of debris, leaving a population of over ten thousand with only a few hundred accounted for so far. While authorities warn downstream residents of rising water levels and debris, volunteer groups from Kathmandu and local relief camps in Bidur are distributing food, medicine, and shelter to displaced victims as major transport highways remain completely washed away.
