The West Bengal government has decided to hand over border land to the Border Security Force for fencing to address infiltration. This move has prompted a response from Bangladesh. The foreign affairs advisor to the Bangladesh Prime Minister stated that the nation cannot be threatened with barbed wires and will not remain silent over border killings. Dhaka emphasized that its diplomatic relations are primarily with the central government of India, rather than the state government of West Bengal. Bangladesh also urged for a more humane approach regarding border security. The decision by the state government aims to minimize infiltration bids and face-offs at multiple locations along the border. The foreign affairs ministry of Bangladesh expressed disagreement with the move, reiterating that border management remains the prerogative of the central government. The development highlights the ongoing issues regarding border security, infiltration prevention, and land handover for fencing along the international boundary between India and Bangladesh.
